This was the perfect solution for the Laundry Room!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I am so excited to share this post with you today, we have been talking about barn doors for the laundry room for a very long time! Well, it was time to stop talking and start doing, as they say.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgals9egmWTYeaNNOe4_XZ1K-NwmKwJ72fgNokT8ZfQ_v2rA7C8ixFNq4ktA1lDG4vORWHjdCpLAtHjs6AtvOaB4Md1tAkB6RYu78Dm8lqGm5B2ZqPuJglNA_KpoqxYu_9hy-XWeVDbVu8/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgals9egmWTYeaNNOe4_XZ1K-NwmKwJ72fgNokT8ZfQ_v2rA7C8ixFNq4ktA1lDG4vORWHjdCpLAtHjs6AtvOaB4Md1tAkB6RYu78Dm8lqGm5B2ZqPuJglNA_KpoqxYu_9hy-XWeVDbVu8/s1600/1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lets face it, a family of 5 means lots of laundry which equals lots of my time spent in our little laundry room. The door swings inward and cuts that room in half, I needed something that would maximize the space.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-WHoO6TJ809JP_wXi_G6hj-ZclUZw2_Jme8u1bHu-h8aMhBP3h-4LD4c3CBXqUqRwPr1PWNiyOdkrTIibv0lZTdc1k0_GlLhsnOT3M0k64e34oPO-s9jmNwyu-zfhpAvnuha5daXcnhs/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-WHoO6TJ809JP_wXi_G6hj-ZclUZw2_Jme8u1bHu-h8aMhBP3h-4LD4c3CBXqUqRwPr1PWNiyOdkrTIibv0lZTdc1k0_GlLhsnOT3M0k64e34oPO-s9jmNwyu-zfhpAvnuha5daXcnhs/s1600/2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When Porch challenged me to come up with something creative using supplies from Hickory Hardware I knew exactly what we were going to create, barn doors!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 1: Paint or Stain the door</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We were keeping our eyes out for a pair of salvaged doors but wow, everything I came across they wanted lots of money, then the hubby found these fabulous doors at Lowe’s. I absolutely loved the doors and couldn’t pass up the steal. I thought about staining them with a dark stain but the hallway is so small and does not have much light, I figured keeping it white would brighten up the space. I went to work and gave it a coat of Swiss Coffee using a foam roller and angled brush.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXH8W067xVAtHhguMeid2_0Z4wcDhBQWn74EKnh6dQAlGjODA6z6GSaT5p6tAM6mnvRsShxrfK7ljyw672ohwcei91RMgAINkU6CWCeaTEK8ndPxo60ics7TsEe96nLzNWMws-H6XkSr0/s1600/3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXH8W067xVAtHhguMeid2_0Z4wcDhBQWn74EKnh6dQAlGjODA6z6GSaT5p6tAM6mnvRsShxrfK7ljyw672ohwcei91RMgAINkU6CWCeaTEK8ndPxo60ics7TsEe96nLzNWMws-H6XkSr0/s1600/3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibkdYyrK0hq9Kzg_DuUPjV8w7e7flZe1D7RdExUMYjfygtoy-Q_usv-ty_1vkAnTdVjVdtXloKTqTG_M2SOXh-I257U3ahDIZUe1D2jsvPJVCqkCHE_-hYo3DXnnd2yonaEmFGd8gzl3Q/s1600/4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibkdYyrK0hq9Kzg_DuUPjV8w7e7flZe1D7RdExUMYjfygtoy-Q_usv-ty_1vkAnTdVjVdtXloKTqTG_M2SOXh-I257U3ahDIZUe1D2jsvPJVCqkCHE_-hYo3DXnnd2yonaEmFGd8gzl3Q/s1600/4.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 2: Make the Rail Backer</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The track must be installed on a solid surface! We cut a 1″ x 4″mounting board the same length as the track and I stained it with Min Wax Ebony. Once the backer is dry, lay the rail flat on top of the backer and mark the hole locations for the rail hardware then remove.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJlQ71MrQM8NrIPYhJdeDOwWzWRcHrnBHdjbvlJ-WlThzJ-1PHpksTRA9Dz6L8M5uN_K6XAzi3U5VlEHN7x7FHjNbt43nR937ATbYjQw6qESNRaqA7fs4_Ep1Qyx5c2uDnQCFleYKjdLU/s1600/5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJlQ71MrQM8NrIPYhJdeDOwWzWRcHrnBHdjbvlJ-WlThzJ-1PHpksTRA9Dz6L8M5uN_K6XAzi3U5VlEHN7x7FHjNbt43nR937ATbYjQw6qESNRaqA7fs4_Ep1Qyx5c2uDnQCFleYKjdLU/s1600/5.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Step 3: On the wall, locate and mark the studs. Remember this is going to be holding a heavy door so you must drill into studs!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
Step 4: Secure the rail backer, thank goodness for good friends that come and help!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvDIEsTPF32ye-HYkvS2LFUpY0ez2UTI1STpOpK1WM6FiLnXux0FnKnXAigRyoDM6SDoRSW-QUzZcDG5AeKFTpk8dKfeieL-bwLIjbqd1TtTeiLdTUeiMneMv4kpZi283YI2F5i1BXc_Q/s1600/6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvDIEsTPF32ye-HYkvS2LFUpY0ez2UTI1STpOpK1WM6FiLnXux0FnKnXAigRyoDM6SDoRSW-QUzZcDG5AeKFTpk8dKfeieL-bwLIjbqd1TtTeiLdTUeiMneMv4kpZi283YI2F5i1BXc_Q/s1600/6.jpg" height="424" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 5: Install the track onto the Rail Backer. Here I will refer you to the professionals, the how to instructions that come with the kit! So our intention was to make our own track, really it was BUT time was ticking so we bit the bullet and purchased two tracks from Home Depot. (thank goodness for a really great coupon we had) However, making your own track is completely do-able, you will save a ton of money and you won’t have any troubles finding a tutorial on-line. We did have to cut the track to fit our wall and since we had 2 doors we needed 2 tracks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrd_-oEDR-hcUDP7e3d67eL_vcIfZfNE4_NT0KkwnjcUJBzfAbeUqNNt7KtWEaijgLfeEncY1hUZbuiWr6PrmaSinGqJZQNBiCmed1xXYQ3GbpliumkjlJP7Z5d4gUNDV2O1KJT2BUoGM/s1600/7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrd_-oEDR-hcUDP7e3d67eL_vcIfZfNE4_NT0KkwnjcUJBzfAbeUqNNt7KtWEaijgLfeEncY1hUZbuiWr6PrmaSinGqJZQNBiCmed1xXYQ3GbpliumkjlJP7Z5d4gUNDV2O1KJT2BUoGM/s1600/7.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 6: Install the hardware onto the door following the instructions that come with the kit and hang. Once complete you are ready to hang the doors on the track.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhC6Lrjvw9E_At2-N7tBvUV7JPYvb1P9PNfwxSWe591ynELsTBSa_HQszhOkGhIBe8x-ymdAGicKxRoFsSDaFDb5VB6_i8xEG7t69G07S5tr0_Z6wvCgNP81q-gxLtbcHLa7ktzTe1mMc/s1600/8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhC6Lrjvw9E_At2-N7tBvUV7JPYvb1P9PNfwxSWe591ynELsTBSa_HQszhOkGhIBe8x-ymdAGicKxRoFsSDaFDb5VB6_i8xEG7t69G07S5tr0_Z6wvCgNP81q-gxLtbcHLa7ktzTe1mMc/s1600/8.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOYK550NQ6Nh2DGrA7DFWuJlgTLRtPPvum4OGRGdCp2E42gKWy1xWw8RnT2x6prR5yrAB-dlCvHLpS8IuvwF9DGu5M8TPHWR7nDo1k_LCLK2NXHweh5qZaaX9c9qbJfR-2aUwSGwF3x5A/s1600/9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOYK550NQ6Nh2DGrA7DFWuJlgTLRtPPvum4OGRGdCp2E42gKWy1xWw8RnT2x6prR5yrAB-dlCvHLpS8IuvwF9DGu5M8TPHWR7nDo1k_LCLK2NXHweh5qZaaX9c9qbJfR-2aUwSGwF3x5A/s1600/9.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 7: Install the pulls so we can open and close the doors. For the hardware I chose 2 18″ rustic iron pulls, I really wanted the hardware to stand out. These pieces were so beautiful and knew the minute I saw them they would be the perfect jewelry for our new barn doors!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFOZASCRKceVUUSQ-en304Y5dEy9j6RIoVxU68xZ_ZtMoWgK0Wpl3EDAmVQFj02L1_BZJdBtU5PLgWUwwrT5WNbhmcMVEizX4sOY-ofBnEFxW-XauRlvEWRjMKYNZmGmT2mRw8GpAnFyM/s1600/10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFOZASCRKceVUUSQ-en304Y5dEy9j6RIoVxU68xZ_ZtMoWgK0Wpl3EDAmVQFj02L1_BZJdBtU5PLgWUwwrT5WNbhmcMVEizX4sOY-ofBnEFxW-XauRlvEWRjMKYNZmGmT2mRw8GpAnFyM/s1600/10.jpg" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
Step 8: To prevent the door from swinging out, you need to install a floor guide, which we still need to do.<br />
<br />
I am smitten with how this turned out, seriously so happy! I couldn’t be more proud of my husband for tackling this in such a short amount of time, I think he has some yummy home cooked meals coming for the next few weeks! I am not going to lie, prepping for a barn door and the installation requires a lot of time and patience but was definitely worth it!<br />

Give your deck a weekend update, making it look good as new! #spon #prepmatters<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSY06Sx4Ss6QME66viLeIobpgNCPWpGpv1hFd27jwyxT0TTHMPwmwlf6FMfjDCkpD1eCqZNsO_ALo-jtbgwfPh_d2L925ZNK8qcsNm0zDXPFuN5grXxboSWVW_KJyF2hzXlpPbXUH_e8w/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSY06Sx4Ss6QME66viLeIobpgNCPWpGpv1hFd27jwyxT0TTHMPwmwlf6FMfjDCkpD1eCqZNsO_ALo-jtbgwfPh_d2L925ZNK8qcsNm0zDXPFuN5grXxboSWVW_KJyF2hzXlpPbXUH_e8w/s1600/1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The night before we closed on our home something horrible happened. A hail storm. Not just any hail storm, the worst my town had ever seen. Hail was between between baseball and softball size. Some were lucky to only receive golf ball sized hail. Can you imagine? Yeah neither could we. And I still cannot fathom what I was thinking as I sat in the closing on our home not knowing the full extent of the damage to our “new home”. Thankfully our realtor had our back and made sure our butts were covered before we signed on the first dotted line! As the estimates started coming in we found out that our home had over $ 50,000.00 worth of damage. I don’t know about you but that was a crap ton of damage! We picked a builder and gave him the task of putting humpty dumpty back together again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Part of our repairs was to have our deck rebuilt do to the large amounts of splintering caused by the hail that hit the home. I had found on a builders site the deck I wanted. Light brown/tan decking boards and a white railing. The builder was hesitant but he complied with making my beach look come true. Because honestly the thought of living with a deck like the one below was just too much for me to handle.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Fast forward 3 years and our deck is once again in need of an update. Mainly due to the wear in tear placed upon it by an 80lb Dalmatian barreling up and down the stairs 4-6 times a day. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I still adore the colorings but our deck was in need of some major TLC, so when we were contacted to try out the Olympic Rescue It resurfacing product we jumped at the chance. </div>

We had intended on starting the painting process 24 hours after our deck had dried but mother nature had another idea and decided it was best to rain at least once a day for over 7 days. I was shocked but grateful at the amount of rain we received in such a short period of time.</div>

Eight days later Matt finally was able to start on the deck. The great thing about Rescue It, is it’s ability to be tinted, it tints to over 110 colors to be exact. It also fills in smaller cracks (like Dog nail gouges) up to 1/4″ thick. </div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
On day one Matt focused on getting the stairs done. We could have started on the main deck area but getting the stairs out of the way while Matt had my help was super important. We were able to get two coats on the stair treads in one day, waiting 6 hours between coats. On the next morning Matt started on the main portion of the deck , while I tended to our now mobile baby girl. He hand painted under the deck rails, the spaces between the decking boards, and all screw heads.</div>

Had the weather cooperated as it has everyday since the 7 day rain stent we could have easily completed this project over one weekend. I’m excited to have a safe surface for a little one to toddle around on no to mention the slip-resistance finish that is barefoot friendly!</div>

I’ve been a painting maniac lately. I haven’t had non-paint-speckled hands in at least two weeks, and this is one of the reasons…</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVJ7WaXvzkyX5XRzuiM8d5JiHodIkNFiN-ztbyU6vHEncfziCwkkjeCBgkwdIWaYl7WqLzRN0SrpkVWo3xGXiH1DRn56u1kD9MW3YFhxXrO8QyEKJfrtwEQ3xTHZFUNUCMqJg45AHzHaY/s1600/1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVJ7WaXvzkyX5XRzuiM8d5JiHodIkNFiN-ztbyU6vHEncfziCwkkjeCBgkwdIWaYl7WqLzRN0SrpkVWo3xGXiH1DRn56u1kD9MW3YFhxXrO8QyEKJfrtwEQ3xTHZFUNUCMqJg45AHzHaY/s1600/1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Our upstairs hallway, featuring 7 (SEVEN!) doors, got a glamorous makeover. I’ve had my heart set on painting our interior doors black for quite some time. I think that glossy black doors just look so polished and elegant! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
With one project or another, I kept putting it off however, until one fateful day when I ended up with a quart of semi-gloss black trim paint when I had meant to get a quart of semi-gloss white…</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPNBk-giykuJR7rW4SuAEbOa_A4nkCNbX3nlJ6J8FdYJNWenic6IRwi4m-QWsK0sMyzp2BL3RjauPQRflqijqUhJuUdfiDNk-0CtSYYs2GkGMYJX4VomYzjdtwSgAcZ4LcywpHxm1h-Y4/s1600/2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgPNBk-giykuJR7rW4SuAEbOa_A4nkCNbX3nlJ6J8FdYJNWenic6IRwi4m-QWsK0sMyzp2BL3RjauPQRflqijqUhJuUdfiDNk-0CtSYYs2GkGMYJX4VomYzjdtwSgAcZ4LcywpHxm1h-Y4/s1600/2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
While picking up supplies for the vintage-boho reading nook, my March Ace Blogger post, I meant to pick up some white trim paint, but once I got home I realized I had grabbed “Sparkling Black” by accident. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It turned out to be a lucky mistake because it was just the push I needed to finally get started on the task of transforming our [disgustingly] dingy interior doors! Once I had started using the paint, I loved it so much that Ace was awesome enough to provide me with another quart to finish the project.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
You can see that I had already started painting the trim white on one door (the door to the master bedroom) and it just goes to show how truly dingy the doors were!</div>

When I posted a sneak peek of my in-progress black doors on Instagram, I got several helpful suggestions for streamlining the process! Well, apparently I’m very habit-bound because I ended up doing what I’ve always done - using my trusty angled brush to apply light coats of paint (3 in all) over the course of several days and several seasons of 30 Rock on Netflix.</div>

While it is completely apparent that the walls need new paint, I’m just thrilled with how sharp the doors look now! The finish is so perfectly glossy and the black hides imperfections really well. While it did make the hallway a bit darker if all the doors are closed, the reality is that most of them are usually open to let sunshine into the hallway, and of course with the hall light on, it’s totally fine.</div>

Somehow, this whole thing actually started with the master bedroom makeover I’ve slowly started tackling. Because I knew I wanted the doors in the bedroom to be black, I had to carry that through the entire hallway! </div>

It was well worth it though, and I can’t wait to share what I’ve got in the works for the bedroom (more painting, naturally). I’ll let this shot I Instagrammed the other day hold you over…</div>
